GENERAL INFORMATION
- Broom tea-tree (Leptospermum scoparium) is an upright evergreen shrub that blooms with showy white, pink, or red flowers.
- The flowers eventually fall off and are replaced by seed capsules.
- Broom tea-tree wood is regularly used in tool handles and when burnt can imbue meat with a pleasant smoky flavor.
SOIL REQUIREMENT
- Loam, Sand, Sandy loam, Acidic, Neutral, Alkaline
FEEDING/FERTILIZER REQUIREMENT
- Once established, broom tea-tree can benefit from fertilization once a month with a mineral fertilizer during spring through autumn.
- A fertilizer without lime, such as an organic fertilizer, is preferred.
LIGHT REQUIREMENT
- Full sunlight is needed for many plants to assume their full potential.
- Many of these plants will do fine with a little less sunlight, although they may not flower as heavily or their foliage as vibrant.
WATER REQUIREMENT
- When growing Broom tea-tree outdoors, maintaining moist soil at all times will keep your plant happy.
- Moist soil will feel damp to the touch, but not soaked.
- Signs your plant needs water are wilting, drooping or curling, and discoloration of the leaves.
- If watering a potted plant, water until it flows out of the drainage holes.
