GENERAL INFORMATION

• Calathea ‘Princess Jessie’ has beautiful leaves with a wide band of pink flaring around the leaf edges and a pink central leaf vein. The primary leaf color ranges from dark green to nearly black. The backsides of the leaves are burgundy. It looks similar to Calathea ‘Dottie’ with Medallion-style leaves but the color is more vibrant.

SOIL REQUIREMENT

• Calathea enjoys moist soil—but not wet soil.
• Try a mix of 50 percent potting soil, 20 percent orchid bark, 20 percent charcoal, and 10 percent perlite.

FEEDING/FERTILIZER REQUIREMENT

• Feed with a mild liquid, indoor plant fertilizer about once a month during the growing season.
• Do not fertilize in winter.

LIGHT REQUIREMENT

• It needs bright, but not direct, sunlight to grow.
• Direct sunlight will burn the leaves of a Calathea plant and insufficient light will cause it to lose its vibrant colors.

WATER REQUIREMENT

• Calathea prefers soil that is slightly moist at all times.
• If the top 1”-2” of the soil is dry then your plant is ready to be watered.
