GENERAL INFORMATION

  • Juniperus procumbens is a dwarf, procumbent (trailing) shrub, meaning its branches spread horizontally along the ground.
  • Juniperus procumbens, commonly known as Japanese garden juniper, is a low-growing, evergreen shrub native to Japan. It's characterized by its sprawling, ground-hugging branches that form a dense mat. This makes it an excellent choice for ground cover, rock gardens, and slopes.
  • Its needle-like leaves are primarily blue-green to gray-green, with a spiny point, and are about 1/3 inch long.

    Overall Length APPROXIMATELY:
  1. Type #1 - 35cm cascade length
  2. Type #2 - 55cm cascade length

SOIL REQUIREMENT

  • Tolerant of most soil types, it prefers slightly acidic, organically rich soil with good drainage, as roots can rot in standing water.

FEEDING/FERTILIZER REQUIREMENT

  • Use balanced fertilizer with a 10-10-10 or similar NPK ratio is recommended. Organic options like slow-release pellets or liquid fertilizers are also suitable.

LIGHT REQUIREMENT

  •  It prefers full sun and can tolerate a wide range of soils, though it prefers dry, sandy soil.
  • The Juniper cannot live indoors.

WATER REQUIREMENT

  • It is intolerant of wet soils.  Be careful not to water too much, as the juniper roots don't like soil wetness.
  • Before you water, the soil should dry slightly.  It requires medium moisture but is drought-tolerant once established.
