GENERAL INFORMATION
- Gingko trees are deciduous, hardy shade trees with unique fan-shaped leaves that are linked to a primitive family of trees commonly found 160 million years ago in China.
- Considered to be the world’s oldest living species of tree, geological evidence of ginkgos have been dated to the Mesozoic era, some 200 million years ago! Ginkgo trees are planted around temple sites in Japan and are considered to be sacred.
- These trees produce an herbal product popular around the world, most specifically in Asian cultures.
SOIL REQUIREMENT
- Ginkgo biloba trees require well-draining soil to thrive.
- They grow in heavy clay, loam, or light, sandy soil, but of all these soil types, sandy soil is best for the ginkgo tree.

FEEDING/FERTILIZER REQUIREMENT
- Ginkgo does not need additional fertilizer to thrive.
LIGHT REQUIREMENT
- Ginkgo trees must receive full sun; they grow poorly in the shade.
WATER REQUIREMENT
- Once established, your ginkgo tree will not need a lot of additional watering.
- Rainfall should be adequate, but for the first few years, it may need some extra water during dry and hot spells of summer weather.
