GENERAL INFORMATION

  • Telosma cordata is a species of flowering plant, native to China and Indo-China, in the family Apocynaceae.
  • Common names include Chinese violet, sabidokung, cowslip creeper, Pakalana vine, Tonkin jasmine, and Tonkinese creeper.
  • It displays showy clusters of flowers that are both fragrant and edible (they are in fact used in many Asian dishes).
  • A member of the milkweed family, Telosma cordata is a creeper, a twining vine that you may want to consider adding to your garden.
  • It can be a nice shade provider if you have this growing in a trellis in your garden area.
  • Adding this in an entryway on an arbor doesn't just beautify the area, but it's also a nice way to enjoy the rich fragrance and the flowers produced.

SOIL REQUIREMENT

  • Well-drained, fertile soil.
  • Filled with cactus potting soil to prevent root rot.

FEEDING/FERTILIZER REQUIREMENT

  • Fertilize the plant every other month from spring through autumn, with an organic bloom booster type fertilizer such as 4-10-7, using two cups per plant.
  • After sprinkling the fertilizer onto the ground around the base of the plant, scratch it into the soil and water thoroughly.

LIGHT REQUIREMENT

  • Place the container in a sunny, warm spot.

WATER REQUIREMENT

  • Since it is susceptible to root rot if its soil stays soggy, water it deeply only about once a week during dry periods.
