GENERAL INFORMATION
- Also known as Mentha suaveolens, apple mint is a perennial herb in the mint family with a mild, fruity scent.
- Apple mint has fuzzy, soft, roundish leaves with a bright green color and a serrated edge.
- Blooms of small, white or pinkish flowers grow on terminal spikes in late summer.
- It is a vigorous grower that can spread invasively through underground runners (rhizomes).
- Regular harvesting encourages more vigorous growth.
- For drying, harvest leaves just before the plant blooms and hang them to dry, then store them in airtight containers.
SOIL REQUIREMENT
- Apple mint prefers rich, well-draining soil.

FEEDING/FERTILIZER REQUIREMENT
- Fertilize monthly during the growing season with a balanced, all-purpose fertilizer such as 10-10-10 or 5-5-5.
LIGHT REQUIREMENT
- Apple mint thrives in full sun but can tolerate some afternoon shade in hot climates to prevent its leaves from scorching.
WATER REQUIREMENT
- Water regularly – Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged to prevent root rot.
- Water when the top inch of soil feels dry, as wilting foliage also indicates a need for water. Applying a light layer of mulch, such as lawn clippings, helps the soil retain moisture.
